Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) and Central Wisconsin Center (CWC) are currently recruiting for a Management Services Director.

MMHI and CWC are located on the north side of Madison and offer a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking, and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, specializing in serving patients with complex psychiatric conditions, often combined with certain problem behaviors. A secure setting to meet the legal and behavioral needs of our patients is provided. MMHI is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system. CWC is a State-operated Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) that provides short-term and long-term residential services to assist people living with intellectual disabilities in acquiring the personal skills needed to reach their highest potential.

Position Summary

As the Management Services Director, you will work under the direction of Facility Directors/Deputy Directors of MMHI and CWC and serve as a senior member of the oversight groups for both organizations. You will be responsible for:
  • Developing and administering MMHI/CWC facility investment plans
  • Planning, directing and supervising MMHI/CWC maintenance and project operations
  • Providing direction, technical expertise, and consultation in the planning, design, construction, remodeling, and maintenance of the facilities
  • Developing and implementing operating policy for Management Services and providing supervision and direction to the Management Services department heads
  • Recommending and implementing Institute-wide and Center-wide programs and operational changes.
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable Management Services standards, rules, and regulations as promulgated by those bodies that accredit, certify, license, or otherwise regulate MMHI and CWC.

Salary Information

The starting salary is between $52.00 and $56.00 per hour (approximately between $108,100 and $116,500 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 24-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as an Institution Management Services Director and is in pay schedule and range 81/01.

Job Details

All applicants who may be appointed will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
  • Experience in a supervisory or management role (e.g., interviewing or recommending hire of staff, directing, and assigning work, monitoring workloads, resolving conflict, preparing and conducting performance evaluations, overseeing discipline, etc.).
  • Experience managing or overseeing two or more areas of an operational program, such as facility services, grounds, environmental services/housekeeping, power plant, or risk management.
  • Experience communicating and collaborating with multiple partners with differing interests (e.g., patients, medical staff, treatment providers, contractors/venders, organizational leadership, etc.).
Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
  • Experience or training with regulatory agencies and accreditation bodies that oversee psychiatric hospitals and ICF/IID. Examples may include Joint Commission, Title XIX, CMS, OSHA, etc.
  • Experience as a supervisor in a secure or highly specialized facility that operates 24/7 (e.g., correctional facility, psychiatric hospital, long-term care facility for those with intellectual disabilities, etc.).
  • Experience managing programs or multistep projects (e.g. setting objectives, developing, and monitoring timelines, evaluating process, recommending improvements, etc.).
