This position will help to develop Optum's cloud based actuarial analytics platforms, ingesting, conforming, cleansing, and enriching health payer data to support advanced actuarial and data science analytics. Our actuarial analytics platforms are built using Databricks, Snowflake and Power BI and other cloud based analytic and engineering tools.

This position will design, develop, implement, test, deploy, monitor, and maintain the delivery of data and analytics pipelines to support actuarial reporting and analytics. Additionally, this position will be involved in building actuarial enrichment data processes, productionizing data science algorithms and performing application POCs to support client service engagements.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead team of data engineers and data scientists and collaborate with actuaries to design and deliver cloud health care analytic solutions
  • Responsible for data engineering lifecycle including research, proof of concepts, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance
  • Leverage deep technical knowledge to build, review, and quality control code to prepare, extract, and enrich data sources
  • Work with different business groups to understand available resources and constraints around data (sources, integrity, and definitions), processing platforms, and security
  • Ability to work with team members and clients to assess needs, provide assistance, and resolve problems
  • Lead team in exploratory data analysis, generating and testing working hypotheses, and uncovering interesting trends and relationships
  • Translate advanced business analytics problems into technical approaches that yield actionable recommendations, in the healthcare domain
  • Build automated, scalable, flexible, secure, and cross domain data and analytic pipelines with supporting monitors, listeners, notifications, and process state reporting
  • Lead monthly and quarterly production activities across multiple client engagements in parallel
  • Maintain high quality documentation of data definitions, transformations, and processes to ensure data governance and security

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience writing code in SQL and/or Python (pyspark)
  • 5+ years of expert knowledge of data discovery, cleaning, model selection, validation, and deployment
  • 2+ years working with Apache Spark or Databricks
  • 2+ years working with GitHub preferably using CI/CD pipelines
  • 2+ years of experience in the healthcare domain, including working with claims and enrollment data with practical application
  • 2+ years of experience leading teams of data scientists, engineers, and other data & analytics professionals
  • Experience using orchestration tools such as ADF, Airflow, DBT, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working as an actuary or with actuaries
  • Knowledge of health care concepts - benefits, pricing, underwriting, stop loss reinsurance, reserves, etc.
  • Experience analyzing and building models using health care claims data
  • Cloud development experience (Azure/AWS/GCP)
  • Snowflake experience
  • Pytorch experience

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
