Job Summary

Under general supervision, following established policies, procedures and professional guidelines, is responsible to the Director, Patient Safety, for day to day management of the patient safety team. The Patient Safety Manager provides leadership and direction in developing a culture of safety And in identifying opportunities and initiatives to enhance patient safety. Develops strategic and operational plans to build prospective, proactive, loss prevention and harm reduction patient safety program. Includes oversight of serious safety event response and prevention activities, collaborative review of incident reports, preparation of reports and presentation to various departmental and executive meetings, providing direction to safety specialists and departmental staff to ensure timely and accurate responses to safety and risk management issues, medical record review of claims and assisting with production requests and interrogatories propounded on TGH, participation in various safety, risk management educational programs that include new employee orientation, and departmental in services. Demonstrates ability to interview, hire, schedule, assign work to and evaluate the work performance of team members. Responsible for performing duties in accordance with the shared purpose, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a health care or business-related discipline required.
  • Master's degree in healthcare or related field preferred.
  • Three (3) years progressive experience, with sustained results, in a position dedicated to Patient Safety.
  • Previous leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS) required.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    • Knowledge of patient safety science principles, theory, methods, standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Superior interpersonal skills.
    • Strong leadership qualities (task completion, motivation, organization).
    • Knowledge of and experience with patient safety analysis techniques (methods), including root cause analysis, cause and effect analysis, and failure mode and effect analysis.
    • At least one (1) year of experience in claims management, settlement, mitigation and litigation.
    • Risk management certification from a nationally recognized organization preferred.
