MI Coalition Against Homelessness - Avalon/Ann Arbor
Avalon Housing is seeking one Full-time and one Half-Time AmeriCorps Member to serve as a Housing Specialists from September 30th, 2024 through September 26th, 2025. Our mission is to build healthy, safe, and inclusive supportive housing communities as a long-term solution to homelessness. MCAH's AmeriCorps members join a corps of 23 members serving with housing and homeless service providers across the state in an effort to provide direct, supportive services to individuals experiencing or at-risk of homelessness. Members will receive training from the program through orientation, mid-year, and end-year training as well as on-going webinars/trainings focused on professional development and networking. Sites will provide position-specific training, including training and licensing in the Michigan Statewide Homeless Management Information System. Service benefits for Full-Time include a $21,000 living stipend (pre-tax, distributed bi-weekly) and a $7,395 Segal Education Award. Half-Time benefits include a $11,118 living stipend and $3,697.50 education award. Member Duties : Employment Support - Network with employers - job searches - Assist with resume writing & applications GED Programs - Provide links to GED, education, skilled trade programs - Provide resources and assistance to enroll in GED programs - Track residents' progress in GED programs and provide ongoing support and encouragement Volunteer Recruitment and Coordination Educational Support - Provide on-site tutoring, homework assistance, and educational programming for students residing in Avalon Housing. - Coordinate and facilitate a structured homework club onsite. - Assist students in developing study skills, time management, and goal setting - Organize educational workshops College and Higher Education Guidance - Build relationships with local colleges and universities to create pathways for Avalon Housing residents - Assist residents in navigating college applications including academic advising, course selection, and accessing support services on campus.
