Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic individual to act as the coordinator for the Michigan Mental Health Integration Partnership (MIP). MIP is a collaboration between the State of Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and the University of Michigan (U-M) to develop projects that assist in improving access, quality, and funding for Medicaid services. The goal of the MIP is to improve the lives of Michigan residents by enhancing access to care and service delivery for consumers with behavioral health care needs and inform integrated care best practices. Through public-private partnerships with provider organizations and community foundations, MIP involves UM clinical experts who work with community partners to implement state-of-the-art integrated mental and physical health services to enhance quality of care and well-being of children and adults from lower income communities in Michigan, with an eye towards improving health and healthcare in Michigan and beyond. In a given fiscal year, MIP supports numerous projects across the health system, involving community stakeholders and State staff, each with different investigators and funders. This position involves components of project coordination, grant administration, and community-based outreach.

Responsibilities*
  • Coordinate and review proposal submissions and amendments across projects.
  • Collect, track, and review all project quarterly and submit to the State.
  • Receive, track, review, and submit final reports, including additional deliverables to the State.
  • Work closely with the State of Michigan/MDHHS staff to ensure that MIP projects align with State priorities and that all requirements are met.
  • Coordinate and submit Institutional Review Boards (IRB) applications, renewals, and amendments, as needed, across projects and between UM and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and facilitate meetings with MIP investigators, as well as annual meetings with the State of Michigan, including a visit to Lansing and a reverse-site visit in Ann Arbor.
  • Solicit agenda items for meetings, dispense agendas, and compose meeting minutes.
  • Act as a resource to MIP investigators or potential investigators about the MIP process, requirements, and opportunities.
  • Represent the MIP program at local and regional meetings both at the University of Michigan and at various MDHHS sites.
  • Coordinate common activities across projects including common utilization and outcomes assessments, dissemination of training and implementation methods, information technology, and other resources.

Required Qualifications*

For Research Area Specialist Intermediate:
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology or related health field
  • At least 4 of related experience in a research field

For Research Area Specialist Associate:
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology or related health field
  • At least 1 year of related experience in a research field

Both Positions require:
  • Previous study coordinator/clinical research coordinator experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to multi-task and manage competing priorities effectively
  • Able to work independently and work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Computer proficiency (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional attention to detail, and excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Previous experience working with grants management and research administration

Desired Qualifications*
  • Master's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology or related health field
  • Experience and knowledge of Michigan Department of Health and Human Service initiatives
  • Experience with the University of Michigan's Institutional Review Board
  • Experience working with the University of Michigan eResearch platform
  • Experience and knowledge of Michigan's Medicaid program
  • Experience and knowledge of Michigan's public behavioral health system, as well as the various Community Mental Health organizations

Work Schedule

Flexible work schedule, Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 12 PM

Additional Information

This is a one year term limited position. Position extension may be available depending on funding availability. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
