Summary

Are you looking for an opportunity to be part of an innovative team and make an impact in the lives of those affected by cancer? As a member of the Moffitt Non-Therapeutic Research Office (NTRO) you may interact directly with community members and patients to enroll, educate, and guide participants through the experience of taking part in research. You may support non-therapeutic research in other ways including data entry, project and protocol management and quality assurance. Regardless, you will be a member of a collaborative team that ensures non-therapeutic research activities are moving forward safely, smoothly, and according to plan.

Our NTRO Research team comes from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, including public health, psychology, biological sciences and more. There are opportunities for those who have worked in other areas of public health as well as those who are looking for a new and exciting opportunity. Team members of NTRO work closely with community members, patients, patient families, study sponsors, and the clinical teams including physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other health care providers.

These positions typically offer a Monday through Friday schedule, though some require occasional weekends. Most offer a hybrid schedule (mix of remote and on-site). Moffitt offers training and orientation.

Position Summary:

The primary focus of the Research Data Coordinator (RDC) position is to complete medical record abstraction and address data queries for non-therapeutic research studies supported by the research portfolio of Dr. Ken Shain (Principal Investigator). The position is required to review and synthesize information from medical records (clinic notes, pathology reports, radiology reports, patient questionnaires, etc.) for study participants and enter into an electronic data capture (EDC) system. This position is expected to work under general supervision and direction from the Non-Therapeutic Research Office (NTRO) Supervisor.

The Ideal Candidate:


  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments

  • Demonstrates an understanding of medical terminology, related to anatomy, physiology, oncology, pathology, radiology and cancer treatment modalities.

  • Comfortable talking to internal/external customers (i.e., physicians, patients, healthcare providers, etc.).

  • Continues to build productive internal/external working relationships.

  • Critical thinking skills and ability to solve issues with minimal guidance.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills



Responsibilities:


  • Perform medical record data abstraction by utilizing subject's medical records and enters into an EDC, while maintaining privacy and protecting protected health information (PHI).

  • Perform data management by entering accurate data in a timely fashion.

  • Responsible for quality of data coming in, performing quality checks within internal EDC.

  • Working with internal and external collaborators to maintain and or document accurate data into the EDC by addressing data queries and discrepancies.

  • Deliver strong customer experience with internal and external collaborators by communicating and establishing expectations and timeline for deliverables.

  • Actively participate in regularly scheduled multidisciplinary tumor boards, staff meetings, disease site program research meetings and role specific meetings.



Credentials and Qualifications:


  • A high school diploma with 1 year minimum of experience using automated data processing techniques, word process software or data base software programs is required. An Associate degree in clinical research or related field of study is preferred.

  • In lieu of experience, an AA/AS degree is acceptable.

  • Successfully demonstrate competency by meeting established competency guideline/checklist.

  • Required general knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite).

  • Preferred knowledge of EMR system (PowerChart) and clinical trial management systems (OnCore).

  • Preferred experience entering data into an EDC (REDCap) or similar.
