Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Job Opening in Interventional Radiology

The MGH Interventional Radiology (IR) Division has a per diem inpatient position available. Inpatient IR-APPs support clinical activities related to inpatient care including providing continuity of care through rounding on post procedure patients, coordinating post hospital discharge follow up, performing bedside procedures, consulting, triaging catheter and drain related issues, communicating and collaborating with referring teams, maintaining a daily presence as the face of IR on the inpatient floors. The APP works autonomously and as part of an inpatient IR team with an attending MD and physician trainees. This role requires organization, time management, critical thinking and highly effective communication with patients and a multidisciplinary team including trainees, nurses, technologists, administrative staff and providers in order to collaboratively care for patients.

Primary Objectives:

  • The in-patient advance practice provider rounds on 15+ patients daily, functioning as independent practitioners for bedside visits managing post procedure care. IR-APPs serve as a primary source of continuity of care for the in-patient IR service while interfacing with interventional radiologists and referring services daily regarding longitudinal patient management, treatment plans, procedure requests or clinical queries.
  • Carry IR tubes/drains/catheter, consult and triage issues that arise
  • Maintain a list of active IR inpatients and assist with discharging and coordinating follow up after hospital discharge.
  • Perform bedside procedures including paracentesis, suprapubic and gastric tube rescues/exchanges, tunneled central venous catheter/ port and drain removals.
  • Educate and serves as a resource for patients regarding post procedure expectations, next steps in care and catheter/ drain management


Qualifications

Candidates are required to hold be a graduate of an approved APP program, hold a current APP certification, and have a valid Ma. State License.
