Summary

Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an exceptional and experienced Advanced Practice Provider (APP) for service in the Department of Radiation Oncology in the Houston, Texas Medical Center.

Our collaboration with Baylor's Dan L. Duncan Comprehensive Cancer Center and Harris Health offers patients a unique academic care environment in Houston and South Texas because of the collaboration between disease site specialists including radiation oncologists, medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, as well as pathologists and radiologists. This team approach is critical to our mission to offer the best care possible and the latest clinical trials.

The APP works in collaboration with the Radiation Oncologists to provide comprehensive care for their patients. The APP is responsible for the following tasks: patient evaluation, completing history and physical exams, ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting test results, prescribe pharmaceutical medications, provide 1st or 2nd assist on brachytherapy procedures if desired, providing oral and written communication with referring physicians and other clinical staff, and developing and implementing patient treatment plans.

Job Purpose

Provides advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.

Job Duties

  • Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
  • Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
  • Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
  • Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
  • Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
  • Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
  • Collaborates with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
  • Perform other job related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

For Nurse Practitioner:
  • Education Required: Master's degree in Nursing.
  • Experience Required: None required, 1 to 3 years preferred.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Current Texas Licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN-NP), and specialty certification as required by department. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.


For Physician Assistant:
  • Education Required: Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Experience Required: None required, 1 to 3 years preferred.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration: Current license as a Physician Assistant (RN) by the Texas Medical Board. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.


For Both:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records.
