Job Summary:

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Neonatology has an opening for a full-time Research Services Professional at the Perinatal Research Center on the Anschutz Medical Campus. The Perinatal Research Center provides multi-disciplinary, basic, and translational research in the areas of Perinatal biology and medicine, functioning as an auxiliary service center, providing laboratory and other research-related facilities and services to Principal Investigators with the Section of Neonatology and to other Principal Investigators in other departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Animal Studies- Prepare animals for physiological studies, as well as laboratory instruments (YSI analyzer and ABL blood gas analyzer, spectrophotometer, and microcentrifuges). Provide support for all aspects of animal studies, including blood draws, sample analysis, and laboratory record keeping.
  • Necropsy- Participate in all aspects of animal necropsies including necropsy room preparation, labeling necropsy supplies for each animal, tissue preparation (for analysis, preservation, and/or storage), and clean-up post-necropsy.
  • Biochemical Assays- Perform various biochemical assays including ELISA, column chromatography, spectrophotometric determinations for various hormones (insulin, IGF-1, glucagon, serotonin, and cortisol) and other analytes (ethanol, pyruvate, glucose, lactic acid, triglycerides, BCAA, ICG), weekly as needed. Troubleshoot assays; enter, analyze, and present data to PIs.
  • Post-Op Animal Care- Monitor water and feed intake by ewes post-surgery, and perform health checks with both whole blood and plasma glucose/lactate values. Routinely flush catheters to prevent blockages. Set up and maintain infusion pumps and IV solutions.
  • Data Collection and Analysis- Ensure complete data collection and entry for all animal studies and assays. Generate appropriate graphs according to individual investigators' requests.
  • Constant analysis of situations for plasma and tissue sample collections. Monitors animal situations from a livestock production point of view and considers the requirements for the PRC.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, CO.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related field.


Intermediate Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or a related field.
  • One (1) year professional-level research experience.


Senior Level:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of professional-level research experience


Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must be willing to learn new techniques as needed, pay attention to detail, and work well in a lab with multiple investigators.
  • Experience with animal studies, especially large animal studies, biochemical assays, and data entry/analysis is preferred.
  • On-job training will be provided to an otherwise well-qualified candidate.
  • Prior experience or background within an experimental or wet lab
  • Experience with small animal handling preferred.

  • Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as

Entry Level: $45,000 to $57,240

Intermediate Level: $48,970 to $62,290

Senior Level: $52,941 to $67,341
