Job Summary:

Senior Professionals are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skills, personal accountability, and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying, and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. Work is performed fully independently.

Nature of Work:

Senior Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in an experimental lab, or wet lab, and handle a variety of chemicals and/or potential "wet" hazards. Senior Laboratory Science Professionals perform duties in laboratories where chemicals, drugs, or other materials or biological matters are tested and analyzed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and other stakeholders with laboratory and research functions.
  • Utilize a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects.
  • Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research.
  • Support analytical testing process using standard lab support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including preserving samples, completing sample preparation, documenting and communicating results.
  • Prepare lab for daily operations, including stocking materials, equipment, safety, cleanliness, and related areas
  • Provide animal care related to research studies, as necessary
  • Pick up, transport, and maintain results, samples, documents, materials and other items as needed
  • Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions
  • Assist and train junior team members
  • Assist with developing or develop protocol-specific systems and documents including process flows, training manuals, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) . Maintains subject level documentation and prepares documents, equipment and/or supplies
  • Assist with identifying issues related to operational efficiency and shares results with leadership
  • Serve as a resource to PIs and other stakeholders


Additional Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide general support to manager and users of the HIMSR.
  • Maintain the laboratory and equipment in working and clean conditions.
  • Maintain laboratory compliance to safety regulations.
  • Collect, accurately record and analyze data in conjunction with other research staff.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical coordinators and research laboratory members to obtain biologic tissue samples.
  • Follow strict SOPs for human blood processing, immunohistochemistry assays, operation of tissue imaging instruments, flow cytometry, mass cytometry analyses.
  • Maintain a reagents and materials database and oversee inventory and ordering.
  • Maintain meticulous laboratory records, supplies, and sample records

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

This position will be part of the Human Immune Monitoring Shared Resource (HIMSR) facility directed by Drs. Jill Slansky and Kimberly Jordan funded by the Human Immunology and Immunotherapy Initiative in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Using state-of-the-art instrumentation, the HIMSR facilitates blood and tissue sample processing, cryopreservation, and immune-related assays at the genomic, proteomic, and cellular level. Importantly, the HIMSR supports the integration of acquired experimental data with clinical outcomes and endpoints. The successful candidate for this position will be detail-oriented, well organized, able to work under supervision and in a team environment, capable of following strict Standard Operating Procedures for routine assays, and capable of interpreting experiment results and understanding quality control measures in the development of new assays. Experience and background in multiplex immunohistochemistry or microscopy, tissue imaging instrumentation, and spatial transcriptomic platforms are highly desired.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
  • Two (2) years professional level research experience.


A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
  • Three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution

  • Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology medical terminology
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

  • Previous experience with autostainer instruments, traditional IHC workflows, and/or fluorescence microscopy
  • Competence with basic computer software.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $52,941 - $67,341.
