Job Summary:
Dr. Meredith Tennis' lab focuses on the investigation of early lung cancer development and lung cancer chemoprevention using translational research approaches. Projects include working with in vitro models, in vivo models, and human samples and interdisciplinary collaboration with scientists and clinicians. The preferred candidate will have molecular and cellular biology research experience, significant mouse research experience, general knowledge of cancer research, and enjoy supporting a team science environment. This position is in a small lab, where research professionals interact directly and often with the PI, have frequent opportunities to work with collaborators, have a high potential for authorship and presentations, and are supported in career development for future goals.

Key Responsibilities:
- Meet weekly with immediate lab group to review research design and progress.
- Use a variety of laboratory techniques required for research projects, including nucleic acid isolation from mouse and human tissues and cells, cell culture and harvesting, western blotting, polymerase chain reactions, histologic processing and staining, transfection and transduction, plasmid prep, luciferase, cell phenotype assays., animal studies, and using precision cut lung slice models.
- Perform experiments and tabulate and analyze research using MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and statistical software.
- Maintain detailed records of laboratory experiments.
- Independently perform scientific literature searches and attend scientific seminars.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and grant applications.

- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
- One (1) year professional level research experience.
Senior Level:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
- Two (2) years professional level research experience.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics, or related field.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory.
- Experience with managing mouse models of cancer.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques, including western blotting, PCR, and transfection.
- Experience optimizing or developing protocols.
- Experience with or knowledge of pulmonary or cancer science.
- Translational cancer research experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
