Job Summary/Basic Function

The Outdoor Program (OP) Rental Center Specialist will serve as a rental technician with specific increased responsibilities. This position requires previous experience (two full seasons) working for the Outdoor Program in the Rental Technician position. The Specialist will serve as a shift lead for all Rental Center shifts during hours of operation. As shift lead, this person will be responsible for overseeing and directing logistics, customer service, large/specific rental orders, and mentoring new staff. This position will include increased decision-making and training responsibilities, including working closely with OP professional staff and student managers for running seasonal and bi-monthly trainings as needed. This position is expected to help improve efficiency and effectiveness at the program. As such, specialists will be expected to take initiative in improving the program by presenting ideas and projects to managers/coordinators, and to work towards implementing those specific projects. Individuals in this position are expected to be experienced with outdoor recreational equipment, to be self-motivated, and to have an expressed desire to contribute to the mission of the program. Candidates must have a minimum of 1 year experience at the OP, a desire to learn and expand skills related to their duties as a specialist, a desire to mentor and assist new staff, the ability to lift 50 pounds, and great customer service skills.

Required Qualifications

• 1 year minimum in the position of Rental Technician at the Outdoor Program
• Atomic/Salomon Binding Technician Certification
• Red Cross CPR and First-Aid for the Professional Rescuer certified
• Experience using, maintaining and repairing a variety of outdoor equipment
• Familiarity with the OP Rental shop policies and procedures
• Personal interest in the outdoor recreation industry
• Ability to work on independent projects and take initiative
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and make decisions based on experience and strong judgement
• Ability to supplement learning experience with individual research and application
• Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and priorities
• Desire to grow in a leadership capacity and serve as a mentor
• Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly
• Ability to stand or be on your feet for extended periods of time
