DESCRIPTION

Provides direct supervision to professionals and skilled technical employees. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives. Responsible for assigned staff scheduling, timekeeping, training, goal setting and performance evaluations. Participates in recruiting and conducts new employee orientation Oversees operations of pharmacy services, ensuring adherence to productivity and quality standards, internal policy requirements and external regulations. Participates in the implementation of quality and patient service improvement initiatives. Evaluates results from quality control tests, and unusual occurrence investigations. Functions as advisor to unit and administration.

Advises and coaches staff to identify resolutions for patient issues. Analyzes and resolves problems, interprets policies (e.g., fiscal management, HR, contracts and grants, resource management in defined areas) and demonstrates solid subject matter knowledge. Supervises the medication use process. Monitors and suggests ways to improve professional and technical staff utilization and efficiency. Identifies ways to improve operations by increasing efficiency of workflow systems. Guides personnel to apply industry trends and best practices in optimizing the use of medication to treat patients. Seen as a reliable resource for any questions or concerns related to medication procurement and dispensing. Develops and coordinates educational in-services to educate pharmacy and medical center staff on safe, effective and economic delivery of drug treatment, providing specific information on drugs, dose rates, side effects and related problems. Serves as a role model for assigned staff.

The Pharmacy Supervisor will spend 25-50% of their time in operational activities (eg, staffing, which may include weekends and holidays).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm D); or equivalent training.
  • Post graduate year 1 [PGY1] In Pharmacy Practice; or equivalent experience.
  • Registered Pharmacist in the State of California.
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience and proven success in pharmaceutical theory and industry best practices in optimizing the use of medication to treat patients.
  • Stays updated on pharmacy regulations and developments in research and design. Ability to apply principles to an acute care setting
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • AAHIVP certification.
  • Five (5) or more years experience as Pharmacist-In-Charge.
  • Familiarity with HIV / specialty pharmacy best practices and workstreams.
  • Ability to organize policies and procedures, as related to accreditation and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent communicator, with the ability to present in large groups.

  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $124,400 - $279,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $59.58 - $133.72

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
