Job Summary and Qualifications

The Plant Operator is responsible for daily operations of the facility's central energy plant and main plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems. Utilizing a working knowledge of boilers, chillers and other plant equipment the Plant Operator ensures the plant consistently runs efficiently, safely and smoothly. The Plant Operator implements strategies to drive continuous improvement and maintain model operation thru planning, organizing, directing and running optimum day-to-day operations. The Plant Operator will strive to meet or exceed regulatory requirements, industry standards, manufacturer's recommendations, company policies and procedures. They will be responsible for creating work schedules, adhering to maintenance schedules and mentoring general maintenance technicians. The Plant Operator will implement and adhere to processes that will maximize stewardship, safety, quality and productivity.

Major Responsibilities:

Operations

  • Operate boilers in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring proper water chemistry, alternative fuel operations and safety equipment functionality.
  • Where required, serves as a boiler attendant to monitor and document safe boiler operations per the systems operations manual.
  • Operate chiller plant in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring proper operating pressures, temperature differentials and water chemistry.
  • Operate medical gas source equipment in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring proper operating parameters, equal equipment run times and safety equipment functionality.
  • Operate air distribution equipment (AHUs) in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring proper air pressurization, space temperatures and equipment cleanliness.
  • Interact with facility management leadership for reporting
  • Monitor the plant equipment to ensure it remains in optimal working order and repair or replace equipment as it becomes necessary.
  • Manage components of regulatory compliance as it pertains to the plant and the operation of the equipment within it as well as standards of federal and state agencies, local municipalities, fire marshals and other Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs).
  • Maintain all relevant documentation utilizing HCA Healthcare Engineering technology platforms to comply with all regulatory bodies.

Service

  • Maintain communication with other departments of the Hospital to ensure all operations are running efficiently
  • Document completion of work orders and preventative maintenance tasks using HCA Healthcare's CMMS

People

  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all patients, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Provide cross-training to general maintenance technicians.

Growth

  • Mentor Maintenance Technicians and educate them on building systems, their operation and maintenance
  • Continual personal development through training and on the job learning to provide upward growth and mobility.

Finance

  • Maintain condition assessments ratings in HCA's CMMS platform for all major equipment and assist with identifying facility infrastructure capital needs.

Other

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Practices and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" and "Mission and Value Statement."

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering-related field Or
  • Associate's Degree in engineering-related field or trade/technical certification or license, 3+ years' experience in Plant Operations Or
  • High School Diploma or GED, 5+ years' experience in Plant Operations Required
  • Experience in Plant Operations in an acute care setting Preferred
