The Haslam College of Business (HCB) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for a Professional Development Coordinator (Full-time, Exempt) in the Professional Development & Career Management department. Reporting to the Career Development Manager, this position will coordinate and facilitate professional development and business communication opportunities for Haslam College of Business (HCB) undergraduate students. In particular, the coordinator directs the curriculum development and implementation process of a course in the Haslam Prepared: Ready to do Business four-course series required of all undergraduate business students. This requires considerable judgment and appropriate problem-solving approaches. The Professional Development Coordinator oversees the training and quality of the various instructors teaching the content which requires significant direction, communication, and assessment. Furthermore, the PDC teach multiple class sections of one of these courses. Each course will reach 1,000+ students yearly in the Haslam College of Business. This position will ensure that learning objectives are defined and assessed to adopt and modify content to improve course and learning outcomes.

In addition, this role also will lead the strategic design and development of services and/or programs that will expand the professional development of HCB students. As part of these services, the PDC coordinators will supervise and train student workers, peer mentors, or a GTA. This position may meet individually and in groups with students. The position supports the leadership team in strategic planning and oversight. This position works with external partners and industry professionals to enrich course content and professional development events such as mock career fairs and other events and projects.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities:

  • Design and Delivery of Course Content of the Haslam Prepared: Ready to Do Business Sequence
    • Teach at least three sections of the required courses each semester
    • Collaborate closely with the Career Development Manager and Professional Development Coordinators to strategically determine appropriate content and reduce redundancy for entire Haslam Prepared sequence
    • Collaborate with the Career Development Manager, Employer Development team, and other Professional Development Coordinators to identify and strategically engage with internal and external topic experts to enhance quality of course content
    • Manage budgets for peer advisor payroll and/or course technology needs in consultation with Career Development Manager and other Coordinators.
  • Create and Direct Professional Development & Career-Related Services or Programming
    • Establish value-added, college-wide service, resource or program to enhance professional development and career readiness of HCB students
    • Create and assess learning objectives to continuously modify and improve learning outcomes and quality of delivery
    • Collaborate with other campus units (i.e., Center for Career Development) to deliver services and programs related to professional development and career readiness
    • Manage budgets for the Haslam Prepared Career Fair and other events and programming, in consultation with Career Development Manager and other Coordinators.
  • Supervision and Training
    • Train and supervise other course instructors, student workers, peer advisors, or GTA that assist with service and program delivery
    • Give regular feedback, formal and informal, to other course instructors to enhance course delivery
    • Identify qualified instructors to assist with courses, services, and/or programs
  • Assessment and Reporting of Data
    • Collect and analyze pre- and post-course surveys to identify learning outcomes of students and use data to guide best practices, policies and content
    • Identify success metrics and trends of students participating in professional development and career programming to guide future needs
    • Provide reporting and make informed recommendations for strategic planning
  • Career & Professionalism Coaching
    • Meet 1:1 or in groups with students regarding professional development & career-related topics in both scheduled and drop-in settings
    • Build relationships with employers/industry/community as needed to maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry and professional development trends


Qualifications:

  • Required Qualifications and Experience:
    • Master's degree required in Education, Counseling, Business, English, or a related field
    • Minimum of 3 years in education, preferably in a university setting (Graduate teaching positions: 1 year = .5)
    • At least 2 years teaching experience.
    • At least 1 year experience working with students, employees or clients in 1:1 setting.
    • Program development and assessment experience.
    • Familiarity with business communication (ie: resumes, cover letters, executive summaries, presentations)
  • Desired Qualifications and Experience:
    • Experience working with undergraduate business students preferred.
    • One or more years working outside of higher education preferred.
    • Experience working with business executives from a wide range of companies
    • Knowledge of Salesforce is preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Required:
    • Knowledge of career or professional development topics and trends
    • Excellent communication, organization, interpersonal, and leadership skills
    • Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with and engage faculty, administrators, employers and advise/mentor students
    • Knowledge of course technology (ie: Canvas, Blackboard)
  • Preferred:
    • Ability to advocate for students from all backgrounds with a proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusivity
    • Proven ability to develop and execute learning objectives/outcomes and assessment plans to improve class and program delivery
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement student programming and/or events
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Knowledge of Career Services software (ie: CSO, Handshake, Symplicity, 12Twenty, Salesforce)
    • Knowledge of Gallup CliftonStrengths
