Job Summary/Basic Function
Under supervision of the Department Chair, the Professional Development Coordinator will coordinate the Department's undergraduate internship and graduate practicum programs, this includes maintaining relationships with current internship providers (ex. Tennessee Legislative Internship Program, The Washington Center) and working with employers to develop new undergraduate internship and graduate practicum opportunities for our students; coordinate with PGA faculty to develop statewide, national and international internships. Develop marketing strategies to connect students to internship opportunities; develop and maintain an internship manual; create a dynamic PGA internship program website and update social media; develop and maintain an internship database. In addition, the Professional Development Coordinator is responsible for the coordination of other professional development initiatives in the Department of Political & Global Affairs, including the virtual mentoring program and (in partnership with faculty, employers, and campus partners) developing programming related to career readiness and some graduate program recruitment (possible travel). Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned.
Required Education
A bachelor's degree in the social sciences or humanities; political science, international relations, international affairs, global studies, geography, public administration, or public policy beneficial.
Master's degree in political science, international relations, international affairs, global studies, geography public administration/policy, higher education administration, or related field is desired.
Required Related Experience
Minimum of three (3) years professional experience in higher education, government, non-profits, or the private sector -or- master's degree + minimum of two (2) years professional experience in the aforementioned sectors.
Required License/Registration/Certification
A valid drivers' license is required
Desirable Related Experience
Familiarity with human resource management and experience working with student populations beneficial.
Desirable License/Registration/Certification
Master's degree in political science, international relations, international affairs, global studies, geography public administration/policy, higher education administration, or related field is desired.
