DESCRIPTION

The Department of Family Medicine (DFM) has approximately 200 personnel including 75 salaried faculty and MSP physicians and 70 core and affiliated residents and fellows with activities totaling approximately $55 million annually in support of Department interests. Under the leadership of a new Interim Chair, the Department will undergo significant strategic planning due to the split with Herbert Wertheim School of Public Health and Human Longevity Science (HWSPH), including but not limited to the management and strategic growth and improvement of four faculty practices, Sports Medicine, Behavioral Health as well as advances in the philanthropic development mission of the Department and is comprised of three divisions, five Centers for Integrative Health (CIH), and ~15 programs.

The CIH Center for Mindfulness (CFM) was among the first university-based centers around the world devoted solely to the teaching and study of mindfulness. The Center has more than 20 instructors teaching courses to more than 500 participants per year. The CFM is a nationwide leader in training teachers of mindfulness-based interventions, and has been the incubator for several adaptations of mindfulness-based interventions for special populations. It also conducts and collaborates on research on the benefits of mindfulness and compassion training for kids, adults, educators, first responders and law enforcement professionals, cancer patients, people preparing for surgery, and more.

The Center for Mindfulness is part of the UC San Diego Centers for Integrative Health, which provides whole-person health care guided by the mind-body-spirit connection since 2011. The Centers foster innovative research, education, and clinical programs that have inspired an inside-out transformation of health care. The Centers for Integrative Health articulate with every department and division across UC San Diego, with a physical presence at more than a dozen locations across San Diego and an international reach.

The remaining four Centers for Integrative Health include the Center for Integrative Medicine, the Krupp Center for Integrative Research, the Center for Integrative Nutrition, and the Center for Integrative Education.

The Center for Mindfulness at UC San Diego seeks a Program Manager to develop and provide educational and community programs, including sales and marketing to attract course/workshop participants, coordinating small- and large-scale community mindfulness and well-being educational programs, and managing of program teachers/instructors. Under the guidance of the Executive Director of the program, the incumbent will provide program oversight, personnel management and direction, evaluation and marketing for a multi-faceted program of educational programs, professional training, research, development and outreach for approximately 50-60 programs annually.

The role of the Program Manager is to oversee and implement the business plan of the organization. The incumbent will take an entrepreneurial approach to developing and maintaining a strategic plan and budget for growing and supporting programs, including decisions about fees, financial considerations and costs, as well as conventional and creative approaches to sales and marketing through print, email, web, and social media outlets.

The Program Manager will independently oversee a full range of local, national and international programs for the general public and professionals. They will coordinate curriculum development, professional networking, teaching and consulting as well as providing administrative support and direction to the teaching and program development team. They will collaborate with program developers worldwide to develop, adapt and implement new offerings of the CFM's Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute, calling on the latest research and the needs of the marketplace. This position will also collaborate with approximately 25 trainers in various mindfulness-based program offered through the Mindfulness-Based Professional Training Institute to plan schedules and coordinate resources. Develop and implement program policies and procedures for training and certification in collaboration with the Center for Mindfulness' Executive Director

The Program Manager will also contribute to the successful implementation of contracts with a variety of business, educational, and government agencies to provide and evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness and well-being training programs, such as a State of California contract to bring mindfulness and well-being programs to law enforcement agencies and professionals across the State, and a contract with a local school district to bring mindfulness programs to educators in K-12 education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
  • Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols, and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and/or personnel management.
  • Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising, and counseling skills.
  • Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
  • Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and/or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
  • Familiarity with or ability to quickly learn specialized software such as marketing/communications (email, website), CRM, CMS, LMS, graphics programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Masters degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

  • Must be willing and able to travel to lead and/or support trainings and special events.
Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $74,300 - $134,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $35.58 - $64.42

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
