Non-Competitive: Six years of qualifying experience as a law enforcement officer or law enforcement trainer in a local, state, or federal agency. All qualifying experience must have been gained after basic/recruit training. An associate degree or 60 credit hours may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience.
Duties Description Under the direction of a higher-level Public Safety Program Specialist within the DCJS Office of Public Safety, Law Enforcement Strategic Assistance Unit (LESAU), the Public Safety Program Specialist 1, SG-18 position will be assigned to the Special Projects Unit of the Evidence-Based Training and Innovation Section. The Special Projects Unit is a cross-functional collaborative team supporting multiple events, projects, and working groups, including the DCJS Annual Public Safety Symposium, ongoing research and development projects, and ad hoc projects utilized to support the Gun-Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) and Intimate Partner Violence Reduction (IPVR) Initiatives. Incumbents will assist in the development, implementation, program evaluation, event coordination, and logistics for these multifaceted programs; this position will assist the PSPS2 Special Projects in the oversight and administration of these programs in collaboration with the Planning and Administration section and provide day-to-day, review, coordination and technical assistance to various law enforcement agencies. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Assist with Special Projects to support the Gun-Involved Violence Elimination (GIVE) and Intimate Partner Violence Reduction (IPVR) Initiatives.
• Participate in the planning, development, and delivery of the annual DCJS Public Safety Symposium.
• Provide direct technical assistance to law enforcement agencies on the tracking and implementation of relevant programs.
• Prepare and provide tables, written reports, charts, and graphics on relevant research, program progress, evidence-based practices, and after-event synopsis for executive-level review, public presentation, and/or publication.
• Prepare and disseminate training and technical assistance announcements and information concerning educational and professional development opportunities.
• Review and analyze criminal justice policy, programs, and legislation.
• Assist in the development, program evaluation, review, and implementation of various kinds of presentations and projects to support law enforcement.
• Maintain various web-based programs.
• Assemble and facilitate stakeholder advisory panels.
• Prepare training and cost proposals funded by state and federal funds.
• Prepare standard Letters of Agreement.
• Inform program managers of potential training opportunities and programs.
• Facilitate and plan training or instruction to law enforcement and partner law enforcement support agencies.
• Secure and set up training venues for the delivery of training.
• Establish prerequisites and select attendees to participate in projects and programs.
• Develop and streamline processes for project updates, policies, and guidance.
• Provide technical assistance on the development or amendment of regulations and structured guidance.
• Serve as a project liaison to outside agencies, inclusive of the Executive Chamber, and non-state governmental entities.
• Participate in workgroups with other governmental entities related to assigned areas.
• Manage social media communications for the unit, including developing content to promote the unit's work products, accomplishments, publications, and training programs.
• Coordinate with internal teams and the Public Information Office to create and schedule posts that highlight key initiatives, events, and outcomes.
• Monitor social media channels for engagement opportunities, respond to inquiries, and escalate issues as needed.
• Develop strategies for increasing the visibility and impact of the unit's activities through digital platforms.
• Promote all the Governor's criminal justice initiatives and DCJS services to local law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies.
• Handle special assignments/projects as assigned as directed by the supervisor.
• Up to 20% travel is required.
