Why does the job exist?
This challenging position is responsible for directing, managing and overseeing investigation and remediation of petroleum contaminated sites resulting from leaking underground and aboveground petroleum storage tank sites in accordance with the Petroleum Storage Tank Regulations
How does it get done?
- Manage and facilitate corrective actions at complex underground and aboveground storage tank release sites
- Review geological and chemical site data to determine appropriate remediation strategies
- Provide team-based review and approval of technical scopes of work and proposed costs
- Oversee corrective action consultants and contractors, including conducting field observations
- Review and approve technical data and reports for accuracy and compliance
- Approve costs eligible for payment from the Corrective Action Fund
- Coordinate meetings and interact with the public and the regulated community

- Occasional contact with external Federal, State and Local regulatory bodies as well as contractors and environmental not for profit organizations

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
- Proficient in investigating and determining remediation for petroleum-contaminated soil, groundwater, or other regulated substances
- Strong skills in project management, technical writing, document review, and experience with regulatory programs
- A keen attention to detail and effective communication abilities
Minimum Qualification
Bachelors degree in Geology, Geochemistry, Hydrology, Hydrogeology, Chemistry, or Environmental Science and one (1) year of experience directly related to the purpose of the position at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must possess OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training or successfully complete it within one (1) year of hire.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
