Job Summary

The University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry CHOICE Lab is looking for an empathic, personable, self-motivated, and organized Research Assistant to help with participant recruitment, assessments, and follow-up activities for studies relating to substance use. Key responsibilities include recruitment, data collection and entry, contacting study participants and completing interviews remotely by phone or in-person.

Responsibilities*
  • Recruiting study participants and engage potential participants in the screening and informed consent process
  • Completing medical chart reviews for study participants and contact potential participants by phone or text
  • Delivering assessments and brief interventions in real-time, remotely or in-person, with study participants
  • Completing tracking paperwork and updating project databases according to study protocols and procedures
  • Uploading participant data to data repositories for data sharing
  • Additional responsibilities include attending team meetings and trainings, qualitative interviews, data entry, maintaining project records, and risk assessments as needed.

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public Health, or a related field is required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a research or clinic setting with direct patient/participant contacts and customer care is required.
  • Empathic, personable, and thrives when interacting with participants/patient.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently while maintaining communication with the study coordinator, study team, and principal investigator.
  • Can prioritize competing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with diverse populations and discussing sensitive topics (substance use, pregnancy, suicide and related mental health conditions).

Work Schedule

This position is full-time (40 hours per week) with regular hours discussed with the manager. To be considered for this position, you must be flexible and available to work a varying schedule with some evening and weekend shifts to meet the needs of a diverse patient population. The position may require in-person work in Ann Arbor, thus reliable transportation is preferred.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.

In addition to the screenings indicated above under Michigan law, a criminal history check including fingerprinting is required as a condition of transfer or employment for this position.
