The Pauley Heart Center is seeking applicants for as needed research assistants to support industry/philanthropic/internally sponsored short term projects on an as needed basis. Our faculty are approached to lead small projects from time to time that require additional personnel beyond what our full-time research staff can accommodate. This position would be to support these projects. Our expectation is that these types of projects may present themselves 3-4 times per year, may last anywhere from 2-12 months and may need approximately 10-30 hours per week.

This posting will be remain open throughout the year and applicants will be contacted when a project arises that they are qualified for.

Hourly, short-term research assistant position responsibilities may include:
- research data collection, entry and/or analysis; working directly with study participants during study visits recording information, administering surveys, supervising physical assessments alongside clinical study personnel; assistance preparing and submitting research regulatory documents, study protocols, consent forms etc.; working with other institutional research offices to facilitate study start-up activities; assistance preparing research abstracts and/or manuscripts ; assisting clinical research coordinators with assigned tasks related to the study;

Required skills: ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to prioritize work requirements to keep projects moving forward; ability to troubleshoot issues with assistance of supervisor; ability to obtain any required certifications in order to complete assignment (i.e. CITI, GCP etc.); competency working with standard office computing programs (i.e. MS Word, Excel, PPT); good communication skills; US citizen or permanent residency or approved work Visa for the length of the assignment; high school degree or equivalent. Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion or a commitment to do so as a employee at VCU.

Preferred skills: previous experience with health science related research or academic preparation in the area of health sciences or other appropriate academic area as applicable to the specific project
