The reporting location for this position is Sacramento, CA.
Lead research and developing datasets, data visualizations utilizing software such as PowerBI, ESRI, and other data visualization software. Work with Energy Safety staff and other subject matter experts to develop analyses. Work with senior staff to develop, maintain, validate, format, and organize datasets and analyses.
Work with senior staff to develop, maintain, validate, format, organize and coordinate studies using complicated research methods and techniques, particularly GIS database and user geographical interface and visuals including maps displaying utility infrastructure such as grids, utility poles and demographic information, to facilitate the rapid handling of data at a level of detail required by the Division. Identify and evaluate structured and unstructured data to forecast trends and assess potential impact in areas where changes are being implemented and a body of knowledge of experience does not exist. Assess impacts resulting from changes in data values and/or planning assumptions. Maintain linkages between different geographic areas, including those of the United States Census, utility service territory boundaries, metropolitan areas, and other political subdivisions of the state.
Plan, design and implement complex data processing steps and/or custom data analyses that support the Division's business objectives by modeling and scripting. Gather, integrate and maintain wildfire, undergrounding, underground excavation safety data to conduct geographic spatial and statistical analysis; measure and verify program outcomes.
Attend meetings/meet with other parties/stakeholders. Participate in workshops discussing research conducted, attend trainings, complete agency work tracking system entries and other duties as required.

The mission of the Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) is to advance long-term utility infrastructure safety through data-driven, wildfire mitigation evaluation and compliance, excavation standards and education, in collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies, and in support of improved utility infrastructure, safety culture, and innovation.
