Job Summary
The Ganesh Lab in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine is looking for a highly motivated individual for a Research Laboratory Specialist Associate/Intermediate position. The candidate will be a member of a collaborative research lab involved in the identification and functional analysis of genetic factors contributing to cardiovascular diseases. The candidates primary roles will be to provide administrative and research support including ordering of supplies, regulatory management, mouse colony oversight, human sample coordination with the central biorepository, and assistance in cellular experiments related to these samples. The work in this position will occur in the setting of a dynamic lab that is using a variety of complementary methods, spanning gene discovery in patient samples to molecular and model systems experiments to understand the genetic basis of vascular diseases. Responsibilities*
The successful applicant would be responsible for a variety of duties including but not limited to:
- Working closely with PI on budget items
- Sample coordination with the University of Michigan Central Biorepository
- Responsible for regulatory management such as EHS and IACUC
- Maintenance of equipment
- Assisting with derivation of primary cells, processing of human tissue samples to isolate nucleic acids and evaluate quality
- Participating in lab meetings
- Responsibilities for this position may evolve to match needs and priorities.
Required Qualifications*
- Associate level: Bachelor's degree in biological/animal science, health, or related field of study and 1-3 years experience.
- Intermediate level: Master's degree in biological/animal science, health or related field of study with 4+ years of experience
- Detailed-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an active research team.
Desired Qualifications*
- 5+ years research experience
- Mouse colony experience
- Experience in lab management
- Familiar with UM systems including Marketsite, LabVantage, and/or RedCap
