Job Summary

A joint Research Laboratory Specialist Intermediate position is available in the Lange Group and Li Group at the University of Michigan, Department of Earth and Environmental Science . The Lange lab studies magmatism and volcanism by analyzing natural samples and performing experiments on melts at high pressures. Li's research focuses on planetary differentiation by investigating material properties at extreme conditions through high-pressure experiments.

Responsibilities*

The candidate will help with lab operation and maintenance, include taking care of lab safety, purchasing lab supplies, maintaining computer software, and training students and new users of lab instruments.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor's degree in a recognized field of science or learning which is directly related to the duties of the position.

Desired Qualifications*

Master's degree and 4 to 5 years related experience, or PhD degree and 2-3 years related experience. Supervisory and financial management experience preferred.
Background and experience in conducting high-pressure and high-temperature experiments using piston-cylinder, multi-anvil press and diamond-anvil cells and performing measurements using in-house analytical instruments including electron microprobe, Raman spectroscope and synchrotron-based techniques including X-ray diffraction and various spectroscopy methods.

Additional Information

This is a full-time, 12-month term-limited position with a possibility of renewal based on the availability of funding, the availability of work, and overall successful performance.
