GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

A Research Technician II position is available in the lab of Dr. Luca Pinello in the MGH Pathology Department. This position requires an individual who will work independently under supervision to develop computational methods for CRISPR design and analysis, create data visualizations, and assist with manuscript and progress report preparation. The lab develops and applies cutting-edge bioinformatics approaches to study genome editing technologies, with a focus on improving safety and efficacy for therapeutic applications. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative research at the intersection of computational biology and genome engineering.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop and implement computational tools for CRISPR off-target nomination and analysis, incorporating human genetic diversity through pangenome approache

• Create data visualizations and user-friendly interfaces for bioinformatics tool

• Assist in writing scientific manuscripts, progress reports, and other research documentation

• Participate in the design and execution of computational experiment

• Analyze and interpret complex genomic datasets, particularly related to CRISPR technology

• Maintain accurate and detailed electronic records of analyses and result

• Contribute to open-source software development and documentation

• Assist with preparation of materials for publications, presentations, and grant application

• Work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic research team

• Stay current with relevant scientific literature and emerging computational methods in CRISPR and genome editing

Qualifications

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• Strong programming skills, particularly in Python, R, and BASH

• Experience with bioinformatics tools and genomic data analysis, especially NGS analysi

• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git) and software development practice

• Excellent written and verbal communication skill

• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Analytical mindset and ability to solve complex computational problem

• Expertise in CRISPR technology, including gRNA design, off-target analysis, and novel Cas characterization

• Experience with machine learning techniques such as PCA and hierarchical clustering

EDUCATION:

Master's degree required.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one year of relevant research experience in computational biology, bioinformatics, or a related field is required. Prior experience with CRISPR data analysis, off-target screening, and assay development is highly desirable.
