Reporting to the Principle Investigator, the Research Technician will be working in the Optics Group of the A.A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging. The incumbent will perform the day-to-day duties of building and maintain fiber optics probes, designing and 3-D printing components needed for probes and devices, build repair and modify electronic components, assemble NIRS wearable devices, and design and build probes for service contracts. They will also performing general laboratory inventory and organization, maintain orders and supplies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In order of importance, list essential areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects and key objectives for this position. • Adhesive terminate, machine polish and inspect single mode, multi-mode optical fiber and optical fiber bundles with FC, SMA and custom optical fiber connectors.

• Design and 3D print biocompatible optomechanical housings for the patient side of the probe.

• Assemble fibers, housings and micro-optics into a complete probe.

• Validate probe performance with tests on phantom

• Design and print other components needed in the lab

• Help assembly and repair NIRS device

• Assemble wearable NIRS device

• Assemble electronic circuit

• Design and build optical probes for service contract user

  • Maintains laboratory notebooks
  • Understands and applies basic scientific techniques
  • Assists with organizing materials for publication or presentation
  • Maintains and orders supplies

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree required.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 1 year of directly related work experience will be considered for a Research Technician II position.
