The Genomics Resource and Facility (GRF) Research Manager/Supervisor works closely with the director, GRF staff and associated lab members across the cancer center in order to enrich the proper use and execution of the technologies associated with the GRF. The position will conduct daily procedures related to operational support of the resource and facility, efficient use and training of the equipment and oversight of instrument maintenance and service.

The GRF Research Manager/Supervisor will be responsible for implementing new methods that will be taught as the methods and technologies are brought online at GRF. The position requires one to disseminate knowledge and guidance to users about the methods and best approach, conduct needed benchwork such as generating sequencing libraries, conducting new approaches for specialized applications (e.g., ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq) and teaching others the methods and approaches and others how to operate the Next Generation Sequencing platforms in the GRF. This position requires significant technical skills surrounding NGS or single cell approaches, strong data management and record keeping skills. The position will also provide oversight of other staff in the GRF and report to the GRF director. The position requires the proper use of lab practice and making of needed buffers and reagents when needed. In addition, the position will oversee the products purchased and stored in GRF and help others access them or identify the proper reagents and kits that they need to purchase for their projects being done in the GRF. The position will require independence and the ability to troubleshoot while also being able to seek guidance from colleagues and the director as needed.

The Scientific Technician II is an advanced technical post that contributes to the scientific research in a laboratory by performing experiments, recording results and analyzing the resultant data. The Technician II may also provide support to the lab by coordinating tasks, providing organizational support, training new personnel, ordering reagents and maintaining general laboratory records.

Education

Bachelors Degree : Physical or Biological Sciences (Required)

Masters Degree : Physical or Biological Sciences (Preferred)

Combination of relevant education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.

Experience

2 Years experience working as a Scientific Technician I at FCCC or equivalent experience (Required)

General experience and familiarity with common lab tools and equipment (Preferred)
