Summary: This position is a seasonal internship within the Business Strategy & Analytics team of the Los Angeles Chargers. This role requires someone who can combine a technical proficiency in data with their business acumen in the world of sports. The Business Analyst intern will support the S&A team's analytical initiatives while providing analytical support to key units across the Chargers' business operations. Furthermore, the role is sponsored by Ticketmaster, the Official Partner of the Los Angeles Chargers Analytics Group, whose data is useful in assisting the S&A team with its analysis.

About the Business Strategy & Analytics Team: The Business Strategy & Analytics team plays an important role in guiding and implementing the strategic direction of the Chargers' business units. The team specializes in leveraging data-driven insights and analytical techniques in order to provide valuable recommendations on optimizing business operations and driving revenue growth. Additionally, the team manages its data ecosystem and pipeline to keep key data and analysis up-to-date and reliable.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Conduct rigorous data analysis using statistical methods in order to distill raw data into meaningful insights that inform strategic initiatives
  • Support the creation of dynamic presentations and reports for leadership by utilizing data visualization techniques to effectively communicate complex findings and targeted recommendations
  • Assist in the implementation and integration of new analytical processes using technical acumen
  • Proactively recognize opportunities for the optimization of current business processes using data-driven solutions
  • Identify the potential of new analytical projects and use-cases within the organization
  • Fulfill analytical requests for various Chargers business units as needed
  • Champion data quality, data accuracy, and data-driven decision making within the organization


Required Qualifications:


  • Completed a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university with a focus on Business Analytics, Data Analytics, Sports Management, or other related field OR completed/pursuing a higher degree (preferred) from an accredited university with a similar focus
  • Experience in SQL with ability to construct complex queries in a relational database
  • Proficiency in Python, specifically with relevant libraries related to data analysis and manipulation, machine learning, and API connections
  • Knowledge and prior experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI (Tableau preferred)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel
  • Strong logical and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Strong statistical background with an understanding on the statistical foundation behind data analysis and machine learning
  • Strong ability to incorporate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Detail-oriented with a keen eye for the quality and integrity of analytical outputs
  • Quick learner and self-motivated with the ability to thrive in ambiguity and ask the right questions
  • Ability to maintain confidential information


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Prior professional experience in business intelligence, data analytics, or sports analytics a plus
  • Passion for sports and a desire to drive technical innovation in sports a huge plus
  • Prior experience with economics and dynamic pricing theory a plus
