Summary

The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board's Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for undergraduate and graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board's internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes.

Position Requirements

As a Security Analyst intern, you will work in the Security area of the Information Technology Division and will provide support to teams that provide information security and compliance support to protect and secure data and information assets. You will work closely with team members to help support the security systems that protect data and/or provide ongoing information assurance and compliance.

What You'll Be Doing

Security Analyst interns support teams in

• Developing scripts and filters to perform automated log monitoring and alert systems

• Discovering tools that monitor security systems to control access and detect and report security violations

• Assisting with Information security assessment reviews

• Assisting with the maintenance of compliance governance policy

• Assisting with creating security training

Previous Security Analyst interns had the opportunity to contribute to projects related to

Vulnerability scanning

• Optimizing Splunk web lists

• Identifying alternate applications to replace existing web security scanning tools

• Using risk assessment tools

• Workforce Development Activities

Through these projects, you will gain experience with security access control systems, compliance governance, and have the opportunity to determine if a career in information security or information security compliance is for you.

Education Requirements: The IT Internship requires a minimum of two years of college coursework in computer science, information systems, information security, information assurance, or other related disciplines.

This internship may be completed remotely, or in a hybrid capacity at the discretion of the selected candidate.

US Citizenship is required for all Board internships and applicants must be current students, graduating from their program fall 2025 or later.
