To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we're looking to add a Senior DFM PCBA Process Engineer located in Austin, TX.

Reporting to the Director of Process Engineering, the Senior DFM PCBA Process Engineer is In charge of process-engineering capabilities focused on cost, quality and delivery improvements in order to hold up a manufacturing organization

What a typical day looks like:
  • Understand the manufacturing process, technologies, techniques and the product
  • Define, Implement and evaluate proposed designs and processes for manufacturability.
  • Have the capability to independently or together with other engineering stakeholders identify root causes of failures in the manufacturing process
  • High level participation in daily production activities and effective problem solving on daily issues
  • Prepare justification, purchase and implement capital equipment for production.
  • Support and oversee new process equipment production.
  • Support the raising and introduction of engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Establish robust, repeatable and reproducible process parameters
  • Develop, implement and take ownership of process control methodologies.
  • Trouble shoot process related issues.
  • Participate in activities pertaining to cycle time and process improvements.
  • Evaluate and select various engineered materials.
  • Implement statistical process analysis on new and existing products.
  • Implement safety, productivity and yield improvements.
  • Improve manufacturing techniques and through put.
  • Provide continuous development of manufacturing techniques that will improve in-house capabilities and yields.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation.
  • Review processing methods.
  • Interface with production of all activities associated with new process implementation and transfer.
  • Assist in the development of training and provide training to production personnel during new technology transfer.
  • Provide equipment maintenance and repair support as required.
  • Lead cost improvement/reduction programs.
The experience we're looking to add to our team:
  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience and training.
  • Typically requires 8 years of experience in engineering in the high technology electronics industry or related area.
  • Extensive experience on DFM/DFA for electronics manufacturing. Able to provide DFM guidelines and feedback to customers for increased throughput and ease of manufacturing for PCBA.
  • Mentor engineers and engineering technicians and facilitate DOEs to drive process improvement for manufacturing processes.
  • Instills appropriate behavior in others in support of Flex's values. Supports strategic direction for the function. Normally receives no instruction. Demonstrates skills in teaching/leading and/or mentoring; may lead a team. Models appropriate behavior in support of Flex's values.
  • Able to develop PCB assembly strategies for new products including process design and development, integration of automation solutions, process documentation, and fixture development as applicable.
  • Well versed on processes and procedures for SMT/PCBAs for manufacturing qualification. Lead facilities bring up for new SMT lines.
  • Problem solving for high complex PCBA assemblies. Able to lead and serve as subject matter expert for corrective and preventive actions pertaining PCBA manufacturing areas.
  • Excellent communication skills on technical and non-technical matters. Able to write engineering reports and present to internal and external customers.
  • Hands on experience preferred on equipment and processes for the following:
    • DFM, Bare fab manufacturing, DOE, pFMEA, SPC, 5-S
    • Stencil Printing - MPM Momentum, Dek Horizon, Paste type and alloys.
    • Stencil Design -Area/Aspect ratio, paste type and mesh knowledge, Eform, nickel, step-stencil, etc.
    • Pick & Place - ASM Siplace
    • Reflow - Heller and BTU (Profile Software: DataPaq, KIC)
    • Solder wave - Electrovert Vectra Elite, Ersa
    • Selective Wave - Ersa
    • SMT & THT Wash - Aquastrom AS200 and chemical/saponifier use
    • Press-fit processes
    • X-Ray - Dage (2D)
    • PoP, Flux dispensing, flux
    • SRT - Component rework Process/Product Improvement
