Under the supervision of a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor), this position serves in the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Coastal Habitat Conservation Planning (HabCon) Program's Coastal Conservation - Mendocino team in Fort Bragg, California, within the Northern Region. The position's primary responsibility is ensuring compliance with permits related to cannabis cultivation and licensing projects, including the most complex projects, requiring a high level of scientific and technical expertise. The position will implement CDFW's Lake or Streambed Alteration (LSA) program and ensure California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) compliance for LSA Agreements, focused on projects related to cannabis cultivation. The position will coordinate with CDFW Wildlife Officers, CDFW's Cannabis Enforcement Program (CEP) staff, CDFW Region staff, and other State and local agencies to address non-compliance and enforcement efforts and conduct compliance inspections for cannabis cultivation sites. Specified activities require knowledge of California fish and wildlife resources, ecological principles, lake and stream processes, applicable permitting and environmental laws, and CDFW administrative procedures and policies. Working Conditions
Must be able to work unusual and/or long hours; occasionally attend evening public meetings; travel frequently; spend multiple, sometimes consecutive days in the field, walking/hiking long distances to assess habitat conditions in adverse weather or terrain where vehicle access is limited. Must possess a valid Driver's License and be able to operate a 4-wheel drive and all-terrain vehicle off highway and over rough terrain. The position may require the incumbent to wear a uniform identifying the employee as Department staff. Indoor work will be performed from a workstation equipped with standard office equipment. Indoor activities may include training's, presentations, and computer and electronic communication. This position requires the ability to operate a computer terminal, calculator, photocopier, fax, and telephone; participate in, give presentations at, and interact with others at meetings; grasp papers, small objects, and manuals; and maneuver above shoulder level and below waist level to access upper and lower files and cabinets.
