The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) is seeking an enthusiastic senior environmental scientist (specialist) to join our talented team that is passionate about reducing waste and developing in-state recycling manufacturing.
This position is responsible for performing sensitive and difficult project coordination for the Local Assistance and Market Development (LAMD) Branch and collaborating with management to resolve challenging situations. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing complex projects, such as developing implementation plans for designing programs resulting from new legislation; developing and conducting technical training programs for staff and stakeholders; developing model tools; and interacting with stakeholders, other state agencies, local government organizations, school districts, and industries to enhance partnerships and share information. This position requires experience preparing and delivering engaging presentations and trainings. The incumbent is responsible for helping to lead the implementation of the short-lived climate pollutant strategy. This includes mentoring, monitoring, and coordinating the program implementation activities of the LAMD Branch staff. This position requires strong project management skills, the ability to manage many multiple priorities and analyze data to develop models and tools. This position involves travel throughout the state approximately 20% of the time.

This position requires that you possess and maintain a valid California Drivers License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your applications. This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria set forth in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position's designated headquarters location, as indicated on their duty statement, at their own expense.
