Summary

The Pediatrics - Pediatrics - Hematology & Oncology department is seeking a Senior Manager, Research Administration. This position will be the administrative leader for the Education and Pre-Award divisions of the Texas Children's Cancer & Hematology Centers. This position would be responsible for hiring and the supervision of staff (3 FTEs in Education; 6 FTEs in Pre-Award). The Senior Manager will lead strategic planning for these areas and oversee the daily operations of these areas, including our clinical fellowship program, student internships, conference support, learners and observers, and our grants program responsible for the submission and compliance for over 400 grant proposals and $41 million in extramural funding.

Employees with CRA certification are eligible for certification pay.

Job Duties

  • Daily operations and supervision of staff, including the manager of the pre-award team.
  • Sets goals and performance plans, as well as staffing for the pre-award and Education functions along with developing budgets for the two areas, as well as managing human resources and strategic planning.
  • Conducts performance evaluations for the Sponsored Programs Manager and hiring and managing the 5 full time employees that report to the Sponsored Programs Manager.
  • Measures the output of the grants program and working with the Director of Strategic Research, Deputy Director, and Director of Administration in the Cancer Center to ensure appropriate coverage, financial and operational systems exist to support the Pre-Award program of the Cancer Center for approximately 180 faculty.
  • Manages the database and builds the tracking of submissions, as well as grants management of the training grant (K12) of the Section Chief are also responsibilities. In addition, the Senior Manager, Research Administration will guide policies and procedures for grants submission, collaborating with the Office of Sponsored Programs.
  • Leads the Education Division. The Education Division requires this position to manage the clinical fellowship program for 24+ Hematology/Oncology fellows, as well as TMB fellowship programs, a summer internship, several conferences and over $2.5 million in restricted, philanthropic funds. There are two education coordinators (2 FTE) that will report to this position.
  • Responsible for creating and managing the Baylor and TCH operational budgets and related costs centers (operational and philanthropic).
  • Serves as the administrative partner to our Fellowship Program Director and the faculty Director of Education.
  • Manages the K12 training grant for Dr. Susan Blaney (Chief of Service).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree. Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience.
