The laboratory of Levi N. Kanu, MD is hiring a full-time Senior Lab Technician, performing research on controlled protein drug delivery for the treatment of corneal wounds. Working under the direction of the PI, the Technician independently carries out a broad range of technically advanced research activities and procedures; evaluates conclusions and has considerable latitude to modify or devise methods and techniques as necessary to achieve desired results. Must be able to write up results for publication and prepare images for talks given by the PI.

  • Directs and carries out experiments independently on projects with collaborators with the advice of the PI.
  • Trains and provides ongoing guidance for students in the use of laboratory equipment.
  • Generates and maintains a book of laboratory protocols for lab use.
  • Independently performs molecular biology experiments, including but not limited to: ELISA, cell culture, nanoparticle tracking analysis; EV isolation; fluorescent microscopy; confocal microscopy; protein quantification; NP and EV uptake assays.
  • Participates in the design and modification of research protocols and experimental design.
  • Develops research methodologies within the parameters of experimental protocols and research objectives.
  • Responsible for oversight and coordination of scheduling of experimental procedures.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting problems and instructing others in highly specialized techniques.
  • May develop modifications of existing assay techniques, experimental protocols, or new procedures.
  • Synthesizes and interprets results.
  • Performs data analysis using statistical techniques as needed.
  • Prepares written and/or verbal status reports as needed, including help in writing of papers and preparation of images for talks.
  • Composes and may present sections of research reports and manuscripts as needed.
  • Maintain records in accordance with strict laboratory practice guidelines.
  • Responsible for lab organization and monitoring of all equipment.
  • Expertise in computer programs used by the lab.
  • Provides administrative support for the lab.

    Fiscal Responsibility:

    Will order all supplies and equipment and may monitor budget for research supplies.


Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree or higher required.

Experience:

Required: Minimum of 3+ years of directly related and progressively more responsible experience.
