Under the general direction of the Executive Officer, the San Francisco Bay Area Regional Manager acts with a high degree of independence to achieve Coastal Conservancy objectives in the nine-county Bay Area. The Bay Area Manager provides oversight on all Bay Area projects and provides leadership on complex or sensitive land acquisition, habitat restoration, public access, and climate adaptation projects. Responsibilities include program development and implementation, strategic planning, program budget, funding allocations, workload allocation, and supervision of project staff.

The Bay Area Manager supervises approximately 5 direct and 6 indirect staff in the Conservancy Project Development series; works closely with the Management Team at the Conservancy on strategic planning, budgets, and agency-wide policies and procedures; consults with the Executive Officer and General Counsel regarding matters of agency-wide importance; and regularly presents to the Conservancy Board on Bay Area projects. Additionally, the Bay Area Manager oversees the Conservancy's staff support for the San Francisco Bay Restoration Authority.

The Bay Area Manager coordinates projects and programs with various local, state, regional, and federal organizations; attends public meetings and hearings; presents at conferences and other forums regarding the Conservancy; and meets with legislators and local elected officials regarding projects within their jurisdictions.

Working Conditions
• Position Headquarters (HQ) is in a high-rise building in Oakland, CA
• Work on a computer for up to 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
• The Conservancy has a telework policy for HQ employees, that allows staff to telework up to 3 days per week. All HQ employees are required to be in the office two days per week - Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
• A computer for teleworking use for both HQ and permanent remote staff can be provided if needed.
• Travel to meetings and project sites may be required during project development management, and/or monitoring.
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
• Both indoor and outdoor work is common.
• Operating a computer system is essential to perform duties.
• May have to stand for long periods.
• Work hours may be various, such as shift work, weekends, evenings and holidays.
• May require an employee to work in adversarial situations.
• Work in a range of climatic environments and may be exposed to extreme weather and traffic conditions.
• Work outdoors and in all weather conditions, including rain, heat and cold.
• May expose the employee to fumes, dust, air contaminants, stinging insects, and rattlesnakes.
• May require overtime.
• May require the incumbent to work around water.
• May require occasional ambulation on uneven and slippery surfaces.

The Coastal Conservancy is a state agency that undertakes and supports projects to protect, restore and enhance coastal resources, promote resilience to climate change impacts, and increase opportunities for the public to enjoy the coast. The Conservancy works along the entire length of California's coast and within the watersheds of rivers and streams that extend inland from the coast. The Conservancy also works throughout the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area and the entire Santa Ana River watershed. The Conservancy awards and oversees grants to local governments, other state agencies, nonprofit organizations, and tribes, using various types of funding, including bond funds, federal funds, and mitigation fees. The Conservancy is a small agency of 80 dedicated, experienced employees who work collaboratively and creatively to achieve the Conservancy's mission. The Conservancy office is located in Oakland, California, near 12 th Street BART.
