Job Summary
The Center for Vital Longevity, a state-of-the-art research facility, located in Dallas is seeking a Software Systems Specialist II.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:
  • Software installation, maintenance and troubleshooting for Linux, OSX and Windows.
  • Hardware diagnostics and troubleshooting of desktops, laptops and printers.
  • Provide support for extensive research computing clusters and supporting servers, including but not limited to web servers, backups, virtual machines, HPC , and SAN / NAS .
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate's degree in a related field or equivalent IT certifications with 2 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Experience in an HPC environment
  • Experience with configuration management tools
  • Experience with version control
  • Experience with enterprise backup solutions
  • Experience managing large amounts (petabytes) of data
  • Experience with Apple School Manager integration is a plus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for daily operational duties such as troubleshooting network access problems and switch configurations.
  • Successfully handle all aspects of desktop support and customer interaction
  • Work either in-person or remotely to troubleshoot and support both hardware and software issues, ranging from Enterprise Applications to incidental applications
  • Support virtual machine infrastructure
  • Support HPC infrastructure
  • Managing Linux servers in various service roles
  • Debug complex solutions to ensure smooth operations for end users
  • Bridge the gap between vendor/Information Resources and end user
  • Use Microsoft Active Directory to perform group policy creation/modification
  • Handle all security/access requests and ensure that access is granted in a timely fashion
  • Ensure a quality experience for all end users by following up to make sure their technology needs have been met
  • Documentation of procedures, especially core knowledge transfer and routing regular procedures
  • Serve as technical resource for system implementation tasks
  • Move computer equipment as required
  • Work on workstation and equipment set-ups that require crawling or physical labor to run cabling and make other adjustments
  • Plan for, evaluate, and document problem areas and resolutions
  • Participate in change management and compliance plans and implementations
  • Participate in analysis and operations of software systems, assist in the handling of research processing, server management, and resolution of errors; and contribute to the automation and streamlining of processes
  • Support identifying enhancements to workflow functionality and assist with implementation of scheduled and recommended improvements/upgrades
  • May provide end-user training and/or orientation and assist other departments as needed

Hybrid Remote Work may be available at the supervisor's discretion after six months of continuous employment. Remote work schedule at CVL is 3 days in office/2 days remote. Employees must be flexible and adjust this schedule as needed with a 24-hour notice. A UT Dallas remote work agreement is required for all employees working a hybrid/remote work schedule.
