Introduction

The State of Wisconsin, Department of Military Affairs (DMA), Division of Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) is seeking a Limited Term Employment, Special Events Planner (Communications Specialist) position, to assist the planning and organization of the Annual Governor's Conference on Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

WEM builds capabilities and coordinates resources to support a safe and resilient Wisconsin. WEM is the state's lead agency for coordinating effective disaster response and recovery efforts in support of local and tribal governments from natural and human-caused/technological events. WEM works alongside local, tribal, state, and federal agencies as well as volunteer and private-sector partners.

The DMA provides essential, effective, and responsive military and emergency management capability for the citizens of our state and nation. During emergencies, no single organization can handle the response. The DMA consists of several organizations working together to plan, prepare, coordinate, and respond effectively when our communities and neighbors need us the most.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the State Training Supervisor and Training Section Lead, this position will be involved with the planning and implementation of the Annual Governor's Conference on Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Duties include d eveloping the website and advertisement materials for the conference, creating the conference agenda, assisting with the conference venue, and collaborating with outside stakeholders.

Salary Information

Pay will be up to $25.00 per hour.

Job Details

Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license as a condition of continued employment.

In order to gain access to the military facilities and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check.

All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO.

May require limited overnight travel.

Qualifications

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will have training and/or experience with:

Developing, coordinating, working with special events including working with vendors.

Creating promotional materials.

Event preparation to include securing location, meals, registration, room layout, technology needs, event speakers.
