Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Specialist IV, Financial Management supports Business Operations in day-to-day functioning by providing analytical, and operational support, and by performing basic financial and budget activities. Assists with operations of the department as it pertains to college monies including but not limited to monitoring budgets, providing business-functions support, and assisting Budget Manager in support of campus business operations. Position follows established procedures in the daily operations of the Business Operations Office, as well as LSC policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Executes job duties to ensure effective operations of department, reviews and analyzes reports, and confers with others to obtain data required for basic to moderate financial and budget support
  • Monitors cost and budgets and assists budget manager as applicable
  • Creates a variety of regular and ad-hoc reports, including but not limited to basic-to moderate level budget reports
  • Designs, plans, and implements basic processes and procedures for a variety of accounting and budget related transactions including but not limited to accounts receivable and/or accounts payable
  • Provides instruction and direction to campus personnel on direct pay requests and accounts payable guidelines; Verifies for accuracy and submits direct payments for processing
  • Prepares, reviews, and reconciles a variety of journal entries and general ledger accounts, including campus budget journals and miscellaneous journal entries
  • Provides training and assistance on budget functions, purchasing guidelines, and reporting for campus budget managers
  • Assists with area operations
  • Assembles information and develops worksheets for budget and audit purposes. Generates various periodic reports
  • Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned


  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Requires detailed analytical skills and a high level of accounting skills and knowledge
    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Work and Powerpoint)
    • Working knowledge of PeopleSoft
    • Skills with monitoring, adjusting budgets
    • Possesses excellent organizational skills
    • Strong attention to accuracy and detail and the ability to successfully manage multiple tasks with overlapping timeframes and deadlines
    • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated
    • Excellent customer service and communication skills

    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma or GED and at least 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Prior accounting experience
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel

    Salary

    Hiring salary range is $36,057 -$41,466.

    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education.
