Job Description

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to the generic nursing staff func1ions, the Emergency Department RN's will have the following duties:
1. Provide initial assessment and triage on all patients 1hat present to the Emergency Department.
2. Plan care according to appropriate nursing and medical needs.
3. Perform an ongoing assessment and evaluation of effectiveness of treatment modalities and care implemented based on review of patient's laboratory test and procedure results.
4. Confirms with the hospital protocol for complying with applicable statutes report child, sexual and other abuse.
5. Confirms with the hospital policy on repo1ting Domestic Violence.

6r Perform nursing assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of patient in the following areas of the Emergency Department:
a. Triage
b. Trauma Room
c. Surgery
d. Medicine
e. Psychiatry
f. Pediatrics
g. Holding Area
h. Diagnostic Area
7. Perform skills including but not limited to the following as outlined in the Nursing Policy and Procedures and Emergency Department specific competency.
a) Administration intravenous Medication
b) Administration of Oxygen
c) Administration of Oral, Rectal, and Parental Medication
d) Auto Transfusion
e) Aseptic Technique/ Infection Control Practices
g) Blood Alcohol Level Drawing
h) Cardiac Monitoring, CPR
i) CVP, A-Line, and Swan - Ganz Monitoring
j) Controlled Drugs (handling)
k) Cardioversion / Defibrillation
l) Insertion of Oropharyngeal Airway
e) Aseptic Technique/ Infection Control Practices
g) Blood Alcohol Level Drawing
h) Cardiac Monitoring, CPR
i) CVP, A-Line, and Swan - Ganz Monitoring
j) Controlled Drugs (handling)
k) Cardioversion / Defibrillation
l) Insertion of Oropharyngeal Airway

Minimum Qualifications
1. A valid New York State license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State; and
2. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Special Note:
For assignments in Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing education program registered by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN. These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit. In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).
