What You'll Do:
  • Acts as statewide clinical expert on sexually transmitted infection (STI) and hepatitis C (HCV) prevention and control field activities.
  • Consults with local STI and viral hepatitis programs, local health departments, health care providers, health care facilities, community agencies, federally qualified health centers, and general public on prevention and control of STIs and HCV.
  • Provides specialized technical assistance and clinical consultation on matters related to STI and HCV prevention and control for internal and funded agencies.
  • Provides clinical consultation regarding congenital syphilis.
  • Serves as a clinical member of statewide congenital syphilis case review board.
  • Conducts site visits to local funded programs as assigned.
  • Writes assigned portions of grant applications and progress reports for STI and viral hepatitis prevention and control.
  • Collaborates with epidemiologists to review treatment and disease classification in Ohio Disease Reporting System (ODRS).
  • Monitors and evaluates STI and HCV programs for effectiveness.
  • Researches resource material and maintains a library of current information on STI and HCV prevention and control.
  • Researches and identifies ODH resources available to assist agencies in dealing with STI and HCV prevention and control.
  • Coordinates with and advises STI, HIV, and HCV Interventions and Treatment Section staff concerning STI and HCV prevention and control.
  • Maintains ODH Infectious Disease Control Manual (IDCM) for STIs and HCV.
  • Attends professional training sessions to enhance knowledge STI and HCV prevention and control.
  • Reads nursing, infection control, medical, epidemiologic and infectious disease journals to keep current with knowledge of STI and HCV prevention and control.
  • Serves as co-chair of statewide hepatitis C workgroup.
  • Serves as an ODH technical expert on advisory committees, clinical review boards, and policy making groups.
  • Recommends changes in existing laws, rules, and regulations regarding STIs and HCV to management staff.


Training & development required to remain in the classification after employment: Biennial renewal of license to practice as Registered Nurse.

Qualifications

  • Current & valid license to practice professional nursing as Registered Nurse (i.e., R.N.) in Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Ohio Revised Code;
  • 24 mos. exp. as Registered Nurse practicing in infection control in a population/community based setting to include both: analysis & interpretation of collected infection control data & investigation & surveillance of suspected outbreaks of infection;
  • & at least 3 of the following:
    • planning, implementation & evaluation of infection prevention & control measures;
    • education of individuals about infection risk, prevention & control;
    • development & revision of infection control policies & procedures;
    • management of infection prevention & control activities;
    • providing consultation on infection risk assessment, prevention & control strategies);
  • 4 mos. trg. or 4 mos. exp. in public speaking/teaching techniques;
  • 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in computer operation.
