Duties

The Strength and Conditioning Coach will develop physical performance programs in accordance with Marine Corps policies designed to meet the operational needs of Marine Corps units. Programming and educational services will target physical performance, musculoskeletal (MSK) reduction, reconditioning, and primary prevention. The incumbent supports MCTF and ensures that the WARR program service, facilities, and training spaces enhance the health, wellness, and performance as part of primary prevention efforts. The primary duty associated with this position is focused on developing and implementing strength and conditioning programs that enhance force readiness. Strength and conditioning programs include active coaching, physical instruction and training to units, reconditioning programming, and athletic performance development as well as increase Marines' personal knowledge and self-efficacy to lead and develop physical training programs and increase knowledge and skills to reduce risk for injury.
  • Develops programs to support the installation commands and Force Fitness Instructors. The incumbent services units, small groups, or individual programs that focus on physical performance. The incumbent promotes other services within Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) and those within the MCTF umbrella available at the installation.
  • Assists the Director of Strength and Conditioning by providing mentorship and training to new coaches, assistant coaches, and interns. The incumbent is responsible along with a team of coaches to sustain and inspect performance center equipment. Daily inspections include reporting any maintenance needs of equipment based on the installation's Standard Operating Procedures and/or manufacturer's guidelines and reporting safety issues or violations to the Director of Strength and Conditioning.
  • Makes recommendations for new equipment and replacement of equipment inventories in indoor and outdoor spaces. Collect, manage, and protect data collected for analysis related to usage, equipment, resources, and policy as required.
  • Available during performance center facility operating hours for scheduling and coaching unit training, small group, individual training, workout of the day, and open gym for all authorized users and is responsible for sustainment of performance center equipment, daily inspections which include reporting any maintenance needs of equipment based on the installation's Standard Operating Procedures and the facility operating hours to include scheduling of unit training, small group, individual training, workout of the day, and open gym for all authorized users.
  • Ensure that Department of Defense, Marine Corps, and installation policies, rules, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are followed, and any safety issues or violations are reported to the Strength and Conditioning Program Manager.
  • Collect, manage, and protect data collected for analysis related to usage, equipment, resources, and policy as required; to include maintaining financial data related to purchases and budgets as required.
  • Utilize multiple resources for programming such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Strength and Conditioning software, and Athlete Management Systems to ensure the program instruction and design methodologies for their respective units or Marines are consistent across the area and implement key modalities associated with comprehensive strength and conditioning programs (strength, power, speed, agility, and recovery). This includes instruction, demonstration of techniques and skills, motivation, development of discipline, testing and evaluation of the Marine's performance related to area of operational readiness, sports performance, and reconditioning.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in an academic field in health sciences, or allied health sciences in sport exercise science, physiology, kinesiology, health and human performance or related degree.
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.) through the National Strength & Conditioning Association or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certification (SCCC) through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA). Must have a current CPR Certificate.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both coaches and higher level or executive level leadership such as directors and commanders of military units.
  • Demonstrate strong public speaking skills and the ability to train in multiple environments or settings for large groups.
  • Knowledge of sport-specific or Performance enhancing fundamentals Training, techniques, and safety rules & regulations.
  • Ability to influence and build positive relationships among diverse individuals including Marine Corps Community Services entities, commands, coaches, staff, and other providers who contribute to Marine Corps Total Force Fitness.
  • Personal computer and related software skills, e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, data query, Internet, etc., necessary.
  • Knowledge of the physiological adaptations of the human body to active exercise; of teaching the safe and correct techniques in execution of strength and conditioning.
  • Demonstrates at least 6 months of actively coaching strength/conditioning and sports performance in a professional sport, or school (high school, collegiate, or above) or military-first responder environment.
