The Thermal Analysis Engineer I is responsible for the support of detailed thermal and fluid analysis, test, and technical support of the AC and DC air-cooled and oil-cooled generators and electrical boxes within the engineering department. This includes all phases of the programs including but not limited to proposals, development, testing and production support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
•Provide assistance and directly perform thermal testing of new and legacy products.
•Supports system level thermal and air flow models of electric generator and generator control unit assemblies as well as models of subassemblies and individual parts considering losses, fluid flow, heat transfer, electromagnetics, deformation, and mass transport.
•Analyze simulation results and post process analysis and provide potential areas for design improvement.
•Supports preparation and participates in technical reviews (design, manufacturing, and test, etc.).
•Initiates actions to solve problems for ongoing products or for new product designs.
•Develops test plan, studies and analyses the data, and evaluates the results for model and simulation validation.
•Able to assist with performing environmental, developmental and qualification tests on electrical generators and control units.
•Supports the investigation and troubleshooting of test failures related to thermal constraints.
•Adhere to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture
•Regular, predictable attendance is required
•Other duties may be assigned as necessary
•Evening/night/ Extra hours may be required during business peaks.

Travel specifictity
•Travel requirements: Occasionally be required to travel, both domestically in the United States and internationally less than 15%.

Physical Demands
•While performing the duties of the position, this role will be regularly required to stand, walk sit, lift, use hands and fingers, handle and feel, reach with hands and arms and observe with naked eye or via various instruments.
•This role will occasionally be required to lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment
The work environment is mainly in office but depending on the phase of the project could be split between office and testing or production floor areas. The environment in some areas may requires wearing PPE or other equipment.

Candidate skills & requirements
Education and/or Experience:
•Bachelor's degree in mechanical/aerospace engineering or equivalent
•A minimum one to two (1-2) years' experience (desirable) in multi-physics modeling/simulations, rotating equipment and/or aerospace preferred
•In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an Associate's Degree in Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or equivalent along with a minimum of three (3) years' experience (desirable) in multi-physics modeling/simulation, rotating equipment and/or aerospace preferred
•Must be legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. "Green Card Holder"), Political Asylee or Refugee

Knowledge/Skills:
•Knowledgeable in system modeling and simulation, design principles, interpreting blueprints, drawings including GD&T and process documents
•Demonstrated problem solving skills
•Understanding of design, manufacturing, and test processes and constraints inherent to the aerospace industry
•Proficient in MS Office
•Experience with ANSYS workbench including Fluent or CFX preferred
•Experience with SolidWorks or CATIA V5
•Ability to interpret complex information and convey a simplified message to team members of varying technical expertise
•Strong desire to learn and take on responsibilities that may fall outside of normal job scope
•Strong written and verbal communication skills
