Why does the job exist?

The Office of Peer Recovery and Engagement Coordinator will:
  • Provide formalized peer support and practical assistance to people who have or are receiving services to help regain control over their lives in their own unique recovery process;
  • Increase the behavioral health peer workforce that include employment at an array of agencies throughout NM such as behavioral health providers in hospitals, with Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), fire departments, medical clinics, peer run wellness centers, Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Centers, and many others;
  • Serve on the Statewide Peer Support Steering Committee to ensure all CPSWs are represented and supported through statewide initiatives;
  • Manage training programs including CEU offerings, and continually evolve and increase program standards and expectations.


How does it get done?

Office of Peer Recovery and Engagement Coordinator Manager is responsible for:
  • Scheduling and coordinate all training activities for OPRE;
  • Responding to inquires from people about the CPSW training and other OPRE resources;
  • Reviewing CPSW training applications and communicate training program eligibility and acceptance;
  • Preparing and delivering required documentation to individuals who successfully complete the CPSW training, in preparation for the examination;
  • Assisting program manager with all aspects of the OPRE program that include new program initiatives;
  • Lending administrative support to the OPRE team on other program initiatives around other types of training and professional development.

  • The Behavioral Health Services Division (BHSD);
  • The Citizens of New Mexico.


Ideal Candidate

The Ideal Candidate has:
  • NM certification as a peer support worker in good standing;
  • Strong customer service skills such as good communication; empathy and compassion;
  • The ability to work independently in a fast paced setting and able to meet strict deadlines;
  • The ability to work creatively within the OPRE team to develop and expand relevant training that prepares peers with work readiness tools, and enhances professional development;
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Suite 365 and able to create reports utilizing various Microsoft Suite software.


Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in any field and two (2) years of experience in training, staff development, designing courses, and/or producing instructional aids/materials. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs
