Staff Development at the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute (NMBHI) provides training to enhance employees' skills and knowledge in alignment with facility and NMDOH policies while also fulfilling the requirements set forth by Joint Commission, CMS, and other accrediting agencies.

Why does the job exist?
Incumbent will provide training to the employees of New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute. Such training includes instruction in general orientation topics for new hires, facilitating annual mandatory training, and other specific skills-based/hands-on courses such as First Aid, Non-violent Crisis Intervention (CPI), and Defensive Driving.
How does it get done?
Create additional training materials as needed.
Plan, coordinate, and teach special training programs as needed/requested for individual departments and units.
Conduct training sessions for staff on approved NMDOH/NMBHI courses and the TRAIN learning management system.
Develop new training modules, job aids, reference documents, and curriculum as requested by management.
Assist in editing training related policies. Fulfill other duties as directed by the Staff Development Director.

Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience in training, staff development, developing course content, and/or producing instructional aids/materials;
Proven experience conducting training sessions, preferably in a classroom or professional development setting;
Strong presentation and facilitation skills with the ability to engage and motivate learners of all levels;
Proficiency with virtual interactive conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams;
Excellent organizational skills and time management skills;
Evaluation skills and ability to tailor instruction to the needs of employees;
Experience working with vulnerable populations is preferred but not required.
Minimum Qualification
Associate's Degree in any field and two (2) years of experience in training, staff development, designing courses, and/or producing instructional aids/materials. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

1. SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITIONS--This position ls designated as safely sensitive. Employment Is subject to pre-employment and random testing. In accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment ls subject to nationwide criminal background check and is conditional pending results.
2. CRIMINAL RECORDS BACKGROUND CHECK-Must successfully complete post offer pre-employment criminal records background check. Employment is conditional pending the results of criminal records background checks. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Successful completion of the Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extend periods of sitting, driving and standing. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. In-state travel is required approximately 15% of the time. Working conditions for individuals will vary based on specific needs of the state agencies. All requirements are subject to possible modification to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
