Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma or Equivalent
  2. Certified in Diesel Mechanic, Certified Auto Mechanic, or minimum 5 years experience as a diesel or automotive mechanic and/or minimum 5 years experience as a school bus mechanic.
  3. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  4. Possess or acquire an Alabama School Bus License

Pupil Transportation Supervisor

Job Goal:

Under the direction of the Pupil Transportation Supervisor, perform supervisory and skilled mechanical work, including but not limited to preventive maintenance and repair of the school system's buses, support vehicles, maintenance vehicles, and equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide guidance and direction to all of the staff members assigned to the school bus fleet and support vehicle maintenance department.

Prioritize and coordinate daily work assignments in the repair and maintenance of buses, support vehicles and equipment.

Inspect, diagnose and make major and minor repairs to the school bus fleet, support vehicles and equipment.

Provide oversight and support to the school bus fleet, support vehicles and equipment.

Perform heavy and medium duty repairs on various school bus components, including but not limited to: electrical systems, ignition and fuel systems, engine, transmission, cooling systems, steering, suspension, emissions, components, wheel chair lift, lighting and charging systems.

Assist in creating a routine maintenance schedule for school buses, maintenance vehicles, driver's education vehicles and other support vehicles.

Routinely inspect all shop equipment and work area to maintain a safe, clean environment for shop employees. Establish and promote "safe practices" for shop employees.

Establish effective communication with the Pupil Transportation Supervisor regarding all buses requiring major repair and any major changes regarding the bus fleet.

Assist in the training of drivers when needed.

Ensure that all bus routes are driven by certified bus drivers.

Assist in the recruitment, training, and supervision of bus drivers.

Attend a 4-hour State Department of Transportation re-certification class annually.

Learn and share new technology and current information concerning diagnostics, maintenance and repair of school buses, camera systems, wheel chair lifts, and parts inventory.

Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.

Coordinate warranty work and problem resolution with bus and warranty representatives.

Perform duties in a manner that promote positive public relations.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the Pupil Transportation Supervisor.

Term of Contract:

Twelve month contract. Salary according to approved Salary Schedule.
