This position is for one (1) Transportation Engineer I, II or III depending on business needs and the applicants' qualifications. Position Description

Performs transportation engineering work in project development and design for transportation and traffic operations, construction, and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Traffic Signal, Illumination, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Design using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as Microstation/Open Roads Designer and SignCad. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties for a Transportation Engineer I, II and III:

• Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
• Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
• Coordinates on design schematics, assists with capacity and level of service studies and reviews in-house and consultant traffic control/traffic management/intelligent transportation systems (ITS) plans and projects.
• Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.
• Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
• Responsible for Traffic Engineering operations.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Transportation Engineer I:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Transportation Engineer II:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Transportation Engineer III:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis . Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
• Licensed Prof Engineer*
• Safety Impact Certificate

*Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of traffic operations design with Microstation/Open Roads Designer and SignCad, as well as knowledge of Plans Specifications and Estimates (PS&E) project management and associated letting tasks.

Competencies for a Transportation Engineer I, II and III:

Considerable Knowledge of:

• Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
• Traffic signal systems design, testing and maintenance operations
• Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes

Proficient Skill in:

• Applying engineering principles, practices, and methods in job responsibilities
• Planning, coordinating and handling multiple projects within area of responsibility to meet short and long term deadlines
• Using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions for a Transportation Engineer I, II and III:

• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions
• Required to wear protective gear-respirator, hard hat, or other device
• Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
• Balancing-walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling
• Close Visual Acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
• Visual Acuity-operate motor vehicles
