GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Our mission at the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is to serve, protect and advance the citizens and industries in the state with quality motor vehicle related services. Performs highly skilled multi-crafted technical trade work including electrical, plumbing and carpentry in the performance of work required for maintenance, repair, and operations for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV). Work involves maintaining and repairing buildings, utility systems and stationary equipment; operating motorized equipment; planning, developing and implementing project activities, consultative services, renovations, restorations and/or alternations in semi-skilled and skilled work in various trades. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Diagnoses and determines viability of doing work in-house while reporting findings to supervisor.

Utilizes Facilities Work Order System, monitors, opens, updates, and closes all assigned job orders.

Supervises other department maintenance personnel and contractors to ensure all work is completed and meets all safety and industry standards.

Performs general and preventative maintenance on facility systems.

Ensures that all work is done in accordance with the industry standards.

Performs checks on motors and belts and handles lubrication duties. Changes filters and replaces parts as they wear out.

Repairs motors and assesses condition.

Will work in a variety of trades and must be willing to learn and grow skills.

Assists in ordering supplies or equipment needed for maintenance or installation, as needed.

Ensures availability of all items needed for repairs.

Responds to emergency situations in order to resolve issues on an immediate basis.

Required to carry a state issued cell phone and is responsible for answering calls during non-standard work hours for emergencies.

Assists with inventory and maintenance of tools and equipment.

Replaces faulty or expired parts on various facility equipment.

Evaluate and determine the need for upgrading equipment.

Hangs pictures, whiteboards, TV's, move furniture, and set up meetings.

Travels up to 5% of the time. Travels by car or truck (may include flying). May include overnight travel. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends, as needed.

Required to attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours in accordance with department policies and procedures.

Required to use Microsoft office including Teams and is required to attend meetings.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Able to read and interpret controls, drawings, blueprints, schematic diagrams, and system operation/installation manuals. Able to organize and prioritize assigned tasks with little to no supervision. Must be able to assess repair situations and determine the best course of action, reporting to Facility Manager when necessary. Must have working/basic knowledge and experience with Microsoft office (spreadsheets, word, outlook, teams). Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, contractors, and the public. Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical and carpentry. understanding of applicable code requirements.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

Graduation from a High school or completed GED plus at least three (3) years in trades as a maintenance technician with working experience in trades such as electrical and/plumbing.

(Applicable Trade school education can be substituted for trade experience on a year per year basis.)

Preferred Requirements

An apprentice and/or 3 years' experience in plumbing, electrical or general maintenance trade.

Certified Maintenance and Reliability Technician (CMRT) of Certified Maintenance Technician (CMT).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

Required to work Monday-Friday, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, on-site at Headquarters location in Austin, Texas.

Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle.

Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires the ability to maintain body equilibrium when bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, reaching and/or stretching arms, legs or other parts of body to grasp, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Physical requirements are for Heavy Work. Work is performed both inside and outside. When inside, employees are exposed to normal office temperatures and noise. When outside, employees may be required to work and be exposed to seasonal inclement weather. Work typically involves standing and walking for extended periods of time.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE

A valid Class "C" driver's license is required. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 90 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required for operating state or personal vehicles to conduct department business.
