From wastewater pumping stations to chemical feed installations and odor control systems, you'll be at the forefront of ensuring the reliability and functionality of critical infrastructure spanning Cary, Morrisville, Apex, and Wake County's Research Triangle Park. Additionally, your job responsibilities may extend to Cary's reclaimed water infrastructure, wastewater treatment facilities, and other utility facilities as needed.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $50,814- $62,420 (Opportunities for salary beyond this range possible for highly qualified candidates with directly relevant experience.)
Typical Tasks
Inspects pumping stations and related equipment, infrastructure, systems, and facilities for proper operation in accordance with regulatory requirements and Cary's best practices for high quality operations management;
Performs regular corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance such as checking and lubricating bearings and gear boxes, pumps, valves, and related equipment; checks amp readings; conducts equipment and parts replacements, restoration, and renewal in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and Cary's best practices.
Performs complete overhaul of wastewater pumping machinery and equipment;
Applies chemicals to treat sewers for odor control;
Troubleshoots electrical/mechanical problems; calls other personnel if needed;
Maintains, cleans, troubleshoots, and repairs air release valves and associated infrastructure for Cary's wastewater collection system force mains and associated collection system infrastructure as required for safe operation of pumping and conveyance of wastewater;
Performs electrical/electronic repair and installation work;
Cleans, services and overhauls pumps, motors, and related equipment;
Maintains and installs liquid chemical feed pumps; adjusts chemical dosing rates;
Maintains, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs standby power generators and ensures our standby power systems are ready and maintained for emergency operations;
Demos and decommissions pump station equipment in accordance with approved plans;
Welds for repair and fabrication;
Checks and maintains alarm dialers;
Maintains extensive maintenance, repair, and operations records;
Runs errands, picks up and delivers materials, supplies;
Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe and cranes as needed;
Performs On-Call duties on a rotating schedule including after hours and weekends;
Performs other job-related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Considerable knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of water and wastewater pump station equipment; some knowledge of electricity and electronics; considerable knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting; general knowledge of pump operation theory; general knowledge of pressure regulating valves and pumping stations; general knowledge of chemical feed and adjustment; general knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work; skill in the use and care of tools of the trade; ability to program and troubleshoot equipment and make appropriate decisions; ability to determine improper operation of water and wastewater pumping equipment and to take proper remedial action; ability to keep accurate records; ability to work with moderate independence; ability to follow oral and written directions; ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable mechanical maintenance experience including the repair, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, diagnostic services, and restoration of wastewater pumping equipment and all associated infrastructure for remote wastewater systems operation.
Requires possession of a valid drivers license with acceptable driving record.
Grade I or higher wastewater collection certification is required, or the ability to earn within one year of hire.
Commercial driver's license withCDL "A" with tanker is preferred.
