JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Art Teacher will create a classroom environment that supports the creativity in students using skills and techniques of artistic expression. Develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Teach the history of art, illustration, and commercial art through lectures, which includes elements of design and modern principals or art.
  • Provide instruction by which students demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting.
  • Introduce techniques and procedures for painting, sketching, designing, and sculpting.
  • Encourage students to develop personal styles and express themselves through the medium of art.
  • Organize instruction for students to understand the versatility of acrylic paintings, dry brushing, staining, layering, and underpainting.
  • Model the appropriate proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Evaluate student's performance and growth in knowledge for progress reports and report cards.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development.
  • Prepare students and participate in All City and District-Wide Showcases/Performances.
  • Participate in curriculum development programs, such as art club and exhibits.
  • Maintain a familiarity with current educational issues and trends.
  • Use current technology for instruction and management purposes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of the theory and techniques required to produce visual arts and sculpture.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media techniques.
  • Diversified knowledge of various art forms, such as digital arts, photography, printmaking,
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Valid Alabama Professional Certificate in Education.
    • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Visual Arts from an accredited college or university.
    • Must meet Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or a willingness to meet the requirements.
