Why does the job exist?

This purpose of this position is to support the Superfund Oversight Section of the Ground Water Quality Bureau. This technical staff position is responsible for performance of oversight and management assistance of remedial actions at Superfund sites.

How does it get done?

-Develop, conduct, and report on environmental investigations to assess risks to human health and the environment posed by contamination, including site investigations evaluated through the ----
-Hazard Ranking System (HRS) to determine Superfund eligibility.
-Review and provide comments on work plans and reports related to environmental investigations.
-Participate in the remedial action selection process.
-Engage in public involvement events related to environmental issues.
-Perform all work in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA, or ¿Superfund¿) and the National Contingency Plan (NCP).
-Provide expertise in highly specialized technical fields such as hydrology, geology, chemistry, and engineering for investigating groundwater contamination sites.
-Implement cleanup activities at Superfund sites in compliance with appropriate state and federal regulations.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following:
-Expertise in environmental assessment and remediation of hazardous waste contamination, with experience in evaluating groundwater hydrology and relevant regulatory experience.
-Proven project management skills, including leading site investigations and cleanup efforts.
-Excellent technical writing skills
-Field sampling experience
-Public outreach experience
-Ability to contribute effectively in a team environment.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture Science, Hydrology, Geology, Environmental Science, Water Resources, Watershed Management, Physics, Natural Science, Physical Science, Life Science, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, Forestry/Forest Science, Conservation Science, Wildlife Science Emergency Management or Engineering and four (4) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required Occasional travel is required. Field work up to 30% of the time with exposure to seasonal weather conditions and potential exposure to hazardous and/or radioactive waste.
